RUSH SR Test | Faster Than A GT4 for $40K?
The Rush SR Racing Car: A High-Performance Track Weapon
The US manufactures RUSH SR is becoming more and more popular and after getting to test the car on the Formula 1 race track in Mexico City I know why.
“Is an affordable, high-performance sports racer that offers near GT4 performance at a fraction of the cost. The RUSH SR features a high-revving engine, a sequential transmission with no-lift and auto blip paddle-shifting, an adjustable LSD, independent suspension with adjustable shocks and an adrenalin inducing top speed of up to 152 MPH. The affordability extends to its operating cost, at close to $100 per hour, it is one of the cheapest cars to track. Simply nothing comes close to the performance and fun factor per dollar.”
If you have some interest in the RUSH SR you have come across a lot of these quotes about the performance and affordability of the car. After reading through a couple of reviews and watching some YouTube videos I got excited for my turn behind the steering wheel.
The RUSH SR warmed up and ready to go at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.
Design and Engineering Excellence
The Rush SR is a purpose-built race car, crafted with the singular goal of delivering maximum performance on the track. Its lightweight chassis is made from high-grade steel and aluminum, ensuring a perfect balance between strength and weight. Weighing in at just under 600 kg (about 1,322 lbs), the Rush SR’s featherlight design allows it to deliver blistering acceleration and nimble handling that can rival even more expensive, high-end race cars.
The car’s aerodynamics are meticulously engineered to provide optimal downforce, keeping the car planted through high-speed corners. The Rush SR features a full-width front splitter, side skirts, and a rear diffuser, all designed to maximize airflow efficiency and stability. This aerodynamic package allows drivers to push the car to its limits, knowing that it will remain stable and responsive even at high speeds.
The performance of the RUSH SR is impressive especially when accelerating out of slow corners.
Powertrain and Performance
At the heart of the Rush SR lies a potent engine that delivers impressive performance. The car is powered by a mid-mounted, naturally aspirated 1.5-liter inline-four engine, which produces around 200 horsepower. While this might not sound like much compared to supercars with three or four times the power, the Rush SR’s light weight means it has an exceptional power-to-weight ratio, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds.
The engine is paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox, offering quick and precise gear changes that are essential for maintaining momentum on the track. The Rush SR’s suspension system is fully adjustable, allowing drivers to fine-tune the car’s handling to suit their driving style and the specific demands of each track.
The cockpit of the RUSH SR is a work of art and let's you know that you are in a proper race car as soon as you get in.
Driver-Centric Experience
One of the standout features of the Rush SR is its focus on driver engagement. The cockpit is designed with the driver in mind, offering a minimalist yet functional layout. The seating position is low and central, providing excellent visibility and a direct connection to the road. The steering is unassisted, offering pure feedback that allows drivers to feel every nuance of the track surface.
The car’s controls are designed to be intuitive, allowing drivers to focus entirely on the racing experience. The Rush SR’s brakes are powerful and responsive, offering confident stopping power, while the adjustable pedal box ensures that drivers of all sizes can find their ideal driving position.
Affordability and Accessibility
One of the most appealing aspects of the Rush SR is its affordability compared to other track-focused cars. It offers a level of performance and engineering typically found in much more expensive vehicles, making it an attractive option for both amateur racers and experienced drivers looking for a dedicated track car. Additionally, the Rush SR is easy to maintain and operate, with a focus on durability and reliability.

Conclusion
I enjoyed the RUSH SR A LOT. The car feels really connected to the track and the acceleration and braking performance is remarkable, especially on tighter tracks. The car sounds amazing which is a big plus. The low seating position and paddle shift set up gives you a proper single seater feeling. For the current price of $39,000 MSRP it will be hard to find a comparative experience.
